Apple Care Vs. Apple Care +

Apple care is Apple’s Free Warranty Plan which guarantees that your Apple product will work perfectly and if it stops working ( with no fault of the user) within a certain period of buying, then Apple guarantees to Fix or replace the part or replace the whole product for free of cost. For example, if your Apple Watch’s Display stops working after 6 months of purchase, then Apple will replace the display for free.

Applecare+ for apple watch

Apple Care + comes with an extended Period of time i.e 2 Years and covers up to 2 accidental damages too! But Apple Care+ isn’t free, here are the prices for Apple care + for different Apple Products:

  1. $199 for iPhone XS, XS Max, and X
  2. $129 for the iPhone 8 and 7
  3. $149 for iPhone XR, 8 Plus, and 7 Plus
  4. $249 for the MacBook and MacBook Air
  5. $379 for the 15-Inch MacBook Pro
  6. $269 for the 13-Inch MacBook Pro
  7. $169 for the iMac
  8. $99 for the Mac Mini
  9. $249 for the Mac Pro
  10. $79 for Apple Watch Series 4
  11. $49 for Apple Watch Series 3
  12. $29 for the Apple TV
  13. $39 for the HomePod

Choosing the right band with your Apple Watch was confusing enough unless you had to decide whether you need to purchase the AppleCare+ extended warranty for your Apple Watch or no! Well, AppleCare+ Extended Warranty isn’t free of cost, For a new Apple Watch Series 5, AppleCare+ Extended Warranty costs Additional 49$ for 2 Years or it can be paid monthly for 2.99$ every Month for 24 Months.

Though when you buy a new Apple Watch Series 5 from Apple.com or Form offline store, Apple provides a basic level of Apple Care, which includes:

  1. 90 Days Free Technical Support
  2. 1 Year Limited Hardware Warranty

 And when you buy Apple Watch Hermès from Apple.com or Apple’s own offline store, They provide a Standard Level of Apple  Care, which includes:

  1. 2 Years of Free Technical Support
  2. 2 Years of Limited Hardware Warranty

Also, For an additional 49$, Apple Watch Series 5 Buyers can get AppleCare+ for 2 Years which can even be paid monthly for 2.99$ a month for 24 Months which includes:

  1. 2 Years of Free Technical Support
  2. 2 Years of Limited Hardware Warranty
  3. 2 instances of accidental damage (subject to a $69 service fee)

For an additional $99, AppleCare+ for Apple Watch Hermès includes:

  1. 3 Years of Free Technical Support
  2. 3 Years of Limited Hardware Warranty
  3. 2 instances of accidental damage (subject to a $79 service fee)

And in case if your Apple Watch’s Band gets loose, or the side Action button gets irresponsive and it’s not because of any accidental or external damage, then Apple will replace it for the next 2 years and for the next 3 years in case of Apple Watch Hermès.

And if its due to some accidental damage like Cracked screen or Water Damage, then apple will still replace it as 2 separate incidents and for an additional Service charge ( 79$ for Apple Watch Hermès and 69$ for Apple Watch Series 5)

How to add AppleCare to your Apple Watch after purchase 

Online

  1. Go to Apple’s add AppleCare website 
  2. Select Apple Watch, then enter your serial number or sign in with your Apple ID. 
  3. Follow the instructions to purchase the AppleCare within 60 days of buying your Watch (you’ll Have to complete a remote diagnostic) 

On-Call

  1. Have proof of purchase ready for your Apple Watch.
  2. Call Apple Support on 800.275.2273 (800.APL.CARE) 
  3. Ask to add AppleCare for your Apple Watch (you’ll need to complete a remote diagnostic) 

At-Store 

  1. Goto an Apple Store with your Apple Watch 
  2. You’ll have to complete a visual inspection and provide a proof of purchase

Who Should Get Apple Care+

  1. If you don’t mind spending some extra money for your peace of mind.
  2. If you often drop your device or use it roughly
  3. If you don’t Trust Credit Card Extended Warranty.
  4. If you’re planning to keep your apple watch for more than a year.

Who Shouldn’t Get Apple Care+

  1. If you’re low on cash and simply don’t wanna spend more money.
  2. If you’re careful with your device and never had a new device fall.
  3. If you already have an Extended Warranty from any Credit Card Service.
  4. If you plan to upgrade this apple watch within a year.

Apple Care+ tends to Increase Device’s Resale Value

As always, Apple will launch a new generation apple watch which will have more features, Much thinner, lighter and your old watch will look like tired in comparison. So you might want to sell it offline or online on sites like Amazon, eBay, etc. And If you’re having more than 3 months of Apple Care+ Coverage left with your device, then you will get a higher resale price than other watches without Apple Care+ Coverage.

So in all, Apple Care + is worth it for those who will be using their iPhone for more than a year.
