PhoneGnome always routes 911 emergency calls to your local phone service provider, via your existing phone line that is plugged into PhoneGnome, so 911 calls work just as they always have.

The 911 system provided by a traditional phone line is known to be the safest and most reliable system. That system integrates tightly with local emergency services and in almost all cases automatically provides accurate location information. Even wireless phone 911 is no substitute for 911 provided by landline phones. Research shows that under the stress of a real emergency, many people cannot recall simple facts like their address or phone number. That's why the 911 system was so designed. Experts and consumer advocates like Consumer Reports and 911voip.org are very clear: "you should keep a traditional phone line after you subscribe to VoIP service."

IMPORTANT: PhoneGnome is not a replacement for your local telephone service. PhoneGnome must remain connected to an active local telephone service in order to access 911 services.
