IPKall offers a cool service where they provide free Washington state phone numbers that ring to a SIP address. Since PhoneGnome gives your household phone a SIP address, the IPKall service works great with PhoneGnome.

Here’s how to set it up:

Go to the IPcall site: http://phone.ipkall.com/ and click the Sign Up link. You’ll get a screen as follows:

At the time of this writing, IPKall lets you choose from 4 Washingtone state area codes (206, 253, 360, and 425). Here’s how to fill out the ‘SIP Phone number’ and ‘SIP Proxy’ fields to make the IPKall number ring your PhoneGnome phone.

For the ‘SIP Phone number’ provide the full telephone number of the line connected to your PhoneGnome box, with country-code, no spaces or punctuation. For US numbers this is simply your number with a 1 in front. So, for example, if your phone number is 650-555-1350 then the IPKall ‘SIP Phone number’ field should be 16505551350

For numbers outside the US, this field must be the full international format (like the + format but without the plus). One easy way to determine this is to use your My PhoneGnome site. On your My PhoneGnome home page, look for the “PhoneGnome Info” section and take the Country-code and Phone Number numbers and merge together into one number as follows:

For the IPKall ‘SIP Proxy’ field, simply enter: sip.phonegnome.com no matter what your phone number is.

Fill in the rest of the data as approriate (you must use a valid email address) and click Submit. You’ll receive an email with the details confirming your new number. The IPKall site says to allow up to 60 minutes for the number to become active but we’ve found it can sometimes take as much as 24 hours, so have some patience.

Pleased be advised that we think this is a really neat service and we know that many PhoneGnome customers use it, but it is a 100% free service and they DO NOT provide any customer service or support for it. PhoneGnome and TelEvolution are not affiliated with IPKall in any way. We simply provide this information as a convenienece to our customers.
